The game's still very damn fun for a Total War.Hello everyone. seriously, does anyone actually like horse archers in the game and being kited forever because you have the wrong unit set? If Shogun 2 has taught me anything about the Total War games, it's that they're the most fun when every side has a complete unit line-up with a healthy number of different roles I don't want to be stuck using one tactic all the time because of unit lineups.īut enough old man grumbling. They still have factions made up of one or two unit types like horse archers. Why did they switch from 1-2 hit points per unit to a lot of hitpoints? Now we have combats where both sides are barely making a dent in each other and then suddenly everyone drops dead, or an army marching under an arrow rain that seems perfectly fine until suddenly everyone crumbles. I made a thread about how I boiled with fury at how obtuse the stats in this game.Īnyways, I enjoy this game a lot, but it ultimately makes some dodgy design decisions think make it a bit less fun than Shogun 2 Total War. Macedon actually have it pretty easy at the start, and if you play the diplomatic game right you can stay friendly with the Nori/Rome and use it as a barrier against the barbarian faction while you Invade Persia and the East. Maybe I'll try Egypt next with Elephants and Chariots. The other factions doesn't interest me so much thou. I think I'll try the campaign again but using a different Faction besides Rome or Macedon. Plus the troops often break that formation after the engagement anyways. I still have no idea what Rome infantry's Testudo was suppoose to do: It's too thick so it leaves gaps in my defense and doesn't look so powerful on offense. I guess because the AI just charged toward you it's better to have superior phanlax/pikes field by Macedon. I played as Macedon in Vanilla Rome 2 and Rome in Emperor edition. In Emperor I lost random provinces, agents, and armies that is not lead by generals in my house or happens to be too far from my capital just switched alligence to the senate even if they were from my house. I feel so sad for the Senate that I left them alone and eveuntually my allies just finished them off. In vanilla Rome 2 I had a civil war and the senate just took two province from me with no armies. Civil War is a pain to deal with in Emperor Edition. You can really specalized your province in terms of production types based on your Commerce buildings. I love the improved buildings: no more relying on temples for + Order. It is still an effective tool to force an engagement with the enemy. I think I only saw a ballista from the AI twice. They do tried to flank and use calvary charge at the rear a few times but overall the AI lacks the patience and too eager for engagement. The AI would actuall bring a slightly more diversified Army compared to Vanilla Rome 2 but they'll still charge at your army usually, the general would Lerroy to his death and so would the rest of AI's armies (at least on normal). A resurrected/New Faction would still convert all their buildings into Military Buildings, Rebels would spawn and take over the city if left unattended. A.I seems to be still lacking in some departments. I tried Normal in Vanilla Rome 2 and AI would just pop stacks of Armies out of nowhere and their buildings would just finish constructing in one turn. Very polished, especially compared to when the game first came out. Interesting mechanics and strageties both in battle mode and grand scale. The Game is what a Total War Game should be. So I just finished a Normal Campaign after they updated the game to Emperor Edition. I searched this forum but didn't find any post about this game.
